Kyoto Tower to get total facelift, refurbishing

KYOTO, Japan - Kyoto Tower, the 130-meter-high modern icon in the ancient Japanese capital, will get a total facelift and refurbishing at a 350 million yen price tag. The tower, built in 1964, will get a milky white new paint on its external wall and the observation restaurant will turn into a lounge. The tower's observation deck will be in business while renovation work is under way, through the end of April. (Kyodo)

        TOKYO, Japan - Tanaka Kikinzoku Jewelry K.K. unveiled a statue of Tokyo Tower made of pure gold at its flagship store in Tokyo's Ginza shopping district on Dec. 3. The 66-centimeter-high statue, which carries a price tag of 50 million yen and was made to commemorate the jeweler's 50th anniversary of business establishment, will be displayed at the store until Dec. 25.
