10,000 people in Kobe evacuate for removal of World War II dud
KOBE, Japan - A 250-kilogram unexploded bomb of World War II vintage is being removed from a construction site in Kobe on March 4 after a Ground Self-Defense Force bomb disposal team detached the bomb's detonation fuse. The Kobe municipal government sealed off a 300-meter radius around the site and 10,000 residents in the area were evacuated during the disposal work. The bomb was apparently dropped by the U.S. military during World War II, officials say. (Kyodo)
