Father of 13-year-old Filipino girl detained over illegal stay
WARABI, Japan - Arlan Calderon (C), an undocumented Filipino man, and his wife Sarah (R) see their daughter Noriko (L) off at Noriko's junior high school in Warabi, Saitama Prefecture, on March 9. Arlan was detained for illegal stay after showing up at the Tokyo Regional Immigration Bureau later in the day and was told that all three in the family will be deported March 17 unless they make a decision on whether they will depart from the country or leave behind the 13-year-old girl in Japan. The bureau allowed Sarah and Noriko to stay in Japan for another week. (Kyodo)
