Hitachi to roll out world's 1st Blu-ray disc video camera

TOKYO, Japan - Hitachi Ltd. will put the world's first Blu-ray disc digital video cameras (photo) on sale on the domestic market Aug. 30 and on overseas markets in October. The video cameras are capable of recording full high-definition video on an 8-centimeter Blu-ray disc which has five times more recording capacity than a regular DVD. (Kyodo)

Toshiba to enter Japan's Blu-ray market after withdrawal from HD

TOKYO, Japan - Two presenters show Toshiba Corp.'s models of Blu-ray disc recorders and a player in Tokyo on Jan. 14, 2009. Hello Kitty cameras to go on sale in Japan Nov. 28

TOKYO, Japan - Sanrio Co. said Nov. 2 Hello Kitty digital cameras (photo) will go on sale in Japan Nov. 28. The lens and the flash light are built into the kitten's ribbon, while the shutter is on top of the ear. The kitten's face lights up in red when the shutter is pressed. A 5 mega-pixel camera with anti-vibration functions retails in Japan for 26,040 yen. (Kyodo)

Sanyo releases world's 'lightest, smallest' videocam

TOKYO, Japan - Sanyo Electric Co. has released what it claims as the world's smallest and lightest high-definition video camera. The Xacti DMX - HD700 videocam, which weighs 189 grams and has a volume of 171 cc, will be put on the Japanese market on Oct. 19. The projected retail price is about 70,000 yen, the company says. Sony to market 12.1-megapixel compact digital camera June 1

TOKYO, Japan - Sony Corp. said on May 14 it will put on the market on June 1 what it claims to be the world's first compact digital camera (in handout photo) with a resolution of 12.1 megapixels. The new camera, called Cyber-shot DSC-W200, measures 58.5 millimeters high, 91 mm wide and 27.3 mm deep. The price is open but the product is expected to retail for about 50,000 yen. (Kyodo)

Sony to introduce new high-definition video cameras

TOKYO, Japan - A marketing assistant shows off a new high-definition video camera which Sony Corp. will introduce on Sept. 10 at a press conference in Tokyo on July 19. Matsushita to release Blu-ray Disc drive June 10

OSAKA, Japan - Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. will release on June 10 a personal computer memory disk drive compatible with the specifications of the ''Blu-ray Disc,'' a next-generation ultra-large storage capacity DVD. The drive (L) -- 14.6 centimeters wide, 4.1 cm high and 19 cm long -- is designed to be fitted into a standard-sized CD drive slot on the core tower portion of a desktop computer. The memory capacity of a 50-gigabyte version of a Blu-ray disk (R) provides a capacity nearly 10 times that of a 4.7-gigabyte DVD. The new drive is compatible with both the 50-gigabyte and 25-gigabyte Blu-ray disks. (Kyodo)
