NASU, Japan - Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko set free a locally bred pheasant at the grounds of the imperial villa in Nasu, Tochigi Prefecture on Sept. 13. The imperial couple has taken up the hobby of releasing birds from the Nasu imperial grounds since the emperor's father, the late Emperor Hirohito, started the annual practice in 1967.
