7 more prefectures placed under COVID-19 emergency
Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga (2nd from R) tells a COVID-19 government task force meeting in Tokyo on Aug. 17, 2021 that the government will extend a state of emergency in Tokyo and five other prefectures through Sept. 12 and add seven more prefectures in view of the recent resurgence of infections in wider areas of Japan.
