7 more prefectures placed under COVID-19 emergency
Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga asks citizens in an address from his office in Tokyo on Aug. 17, 2021, to continue to take preventive measures against the coronavirus. The government decided the same day to extend a COVID-19 state of emergency in Tokyo and five other prefectures through Sept. 12 and add seven more prefectures to the emergency list.
