Eid al-Fitr Festival Frenzy - Bangladesh
Bangladeshi people try to get on board of an overcrowded ferry to go their village homes for the Eid al-Fitr festival in Shimuliya, Munshiganj, on the outskirts of Dhaka, Bangladesh, May 12, 2021. At least five people died and 12 others fell sick on Wednesday in crowd crush and heat of the burning sun on two ferries on Shimulia-Banglabazar ferry route in the River Padma at Banglabazar end of the route under Shibchar upazila in Madaripur. The incident took place while thousands of people from the capital city of Bangladesh and adjacent districts thronged to the major ferry terminals and highways on Wednesday ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr violating all the Covid-19 restrictions imposed by the government on public movement.
