JR East to introduce new bus fare payment system

An East Japan Railway Co. employee posing as a bus passenger holds a smartphone over an IC chip-incorporated small panel set up beside the driver's seat to demonstrate a new bus fare payment system to the media in Tokyo's Ota Ward on Sept. 14, 2021. The cashless payment system, less costly than the company's existing payment system using a Suica card, will be introduced on a JR bus in Tokyo from Sept. 16 on a trial basis.
