Tsunami-hit Fukushima school opens as memorial to 2011 tragedy
Photo taken Oct. 18, 2021, from a drone shows Ukedo Elementary School, run by the town of Namie in Fukushima Prefecture, northeastern Japan. It is the first building in the prefecture preserved in its damaged state to serve as a memorial to the 2011 earthquake-tsunami disaster. A plate showing the height of the tsunami has been attached to the school building.
