Christo's 'Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped' - Paris

★People visit the art installation featuring the Arc de Triomphe wrapped in a giant sheet of fabric as part of a project of late Bulgarian-born US artist Christo Javacheff, on Sunday September 19, 2021, in Paris, France, on Avenue des Champs-Elysees which is exclusively reserved for pedestrians. Under the 14m euro project, the Arc de Triomphe was wrapped in 25,000 square metres of silvery recyclable polypropylene using 3,000 metres of red rope. The work, which involved 95 people, took several days to complete. Christo and his wife Jeanne-Claude earlier wrapped the Pont-Neuf in Paris, the Reichstag in Berlin and floating piers in Italy. Christo and Jeanne-Claude had been working on the wrapping sheet for the Arc de Triomphe since 1962. Jeanne Claude died in 2009, Christo died in 2020. The project was completed by Christos nephew Vladimir Javacheff. Photo by Pierrick Villette/Avenir Picture
