STORYLINE:
The Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) signed on Wednesday an agreement to provide natural gas to the Italian company Eni.
The signing of the agreement comes within the framework of strategic partnerships between Egypt and Italy in many fields, especially the energy field.
The two companies also agreed to upscale the production and exploration of natural gas in the Nile Delta, Eastern Mediterranean, and Western Desert regions.
Eni said the agreement could bring up to 3 billion cubic meters of liquefied natural gas to Europe in 2022.
The move comes as Italy and Europe step up efforts to find alternative gas imports to cut their reliance on Russian gas due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
