The signing of the agreement comes within the framework of strategic partnerships between Egypt and Italy in many fields, especially the energy field. The two companies also agreed to upscale the production and exploration of natural gas in the Nile Delta, Eastern Mediterranean, and Western Desert regions. Eni said the agreement could bring up to 3 billion cubic meters of liquefied natural gas to Europe in 2022.
