STORYLINE:
Cabs and taxi operators in India's Delhi began their two-day strike on Monday demanding fixation of fares or charges by the government, reduction in fuel prices, and a fare revision in the wake of continuously rising fuel prices.
Presently, the fares are decided by the cabs-aggregators like Ola and Uber.
The strike was called despite the Delhi government's assurance to look into the matter. Last week, Delhi's Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said that the state government would soon form a committee regarding the requests.
The cabs operators demanded that the Delhi government reduce the Value Added Tax (VAT) which it imposes on the diesel and petrol before the fuels are sold at the retail outlets, and bring the fuels under the ambit of Goods and Servic
