STORYLINE:
Track laying of the Jakarta-Bandung High Speed Railway (HSR) has begun in Bandung Regency, Indonesia's West Java province, marking a solid step towards the whole line completion, according to the railway's operator.
The railway's operator KCIC, a joint venture consortium between Chinese and Indonesian state-owned firms, said the total track laying of the 142-km HSR is 279.4 km, including 112.8 km of ballasted track section and 166.6 km of ballastless track.
According to the KCIC, all the 50-meter steel rails used in the project are produced in China, with a total of 11,810 pieces weighing 35,881 tons. After being delivered to Indonesia, the 50-meter rails will be welded into 500-meter-long rails.
