STORYLINE:
Leading Israeli food company Strauss Group, the country's largest chocolate maker, has halted all chocolate production amid fear of Salmonella, the Israeli Ministry of Health said on Monday.
Salmonella was found in samples during routine tests at the production line at the company's chocolate factory in the northern city of Nof Hagalil, according to the ministry and company.
Both the ministry and company decided on a recall alert for all the company's chocolate products manufactured since February 20, including the "Parra" (cow) chocolate bar, which has been a popular chocolate brand in Israel for decades.
According to the company's figures, the Parra production line makes about 20,000 chocolate bars per hour, with 45 million bars being sold every year.
