STORYLINE:
On Tuesday, 19 kids and two teachers were killed in Uvalde, a small town in southern Texas, making the tragedy the deadliest shooting at a school in almost a decade.
They were shot dead inside the same classroom at Robb Elementary School, just two days before the summer break. Another 17 people were injured in the shooting.
The shooter, a local high school student, legally purchased two assault rifles and nearly 400 rounds of ammunition last week for his 18th birthday. He also shared his plan on social media shortly before the attack.
"By doing nothing to prevent gun violence, our nation chooses this pain," a local newspaper commented.
