"I'm standing outside the Sri Lankan president's office. Gotabaya Rajapaksa is no longer the president of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka Speaker of Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena on Friday morning officially announced to the nation that Gotabaya Rajapaksa had resigned as the president of Sri Lanka, and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will now function as an interim president. The parliament will elect a new president within seven days after which a new government will come into place. Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has urged for calm and has informed the citizens to allow a smooth transition
