According to him, as many as 163,370 people renounced their Indian citizenship during 2021, compared to 85,256 in 2020. Over the past three years, more than 392,000 Indians renounced their home country's citizenship and chose to accept other countries for citizenship. The junior minister added that those individuals who renounced Indian citizenship for "personal reasons" took citizenship in over 120 countries.
