STORYLINE:
Northwest China's Gansu Province, rich in wind and solar energy, is seeing a new energy development boom as the country seeks to reduce carbon emissions and improve the energy mix.
In Gansu's Dunhuang City lies China's largest molten salt solar thermal power station. When operating at full capacity, it can generate 100,000 kWh of electricity per hour, enabling one million 100-watt light bulbs to work for an hour.
Next to it sits the Lanzhou Dacheng Dunhuang 50MW molten salt Fresnel concentrating solar power (CSP) project, which can generate electricity 24 hours a day in normal weather.
