The commercial operation of driverless robotaxis is venturing beyond semi-closed areas and onto more open roads in China thanks to technological innovation and policy support.
Chinese tech giant Baidu has started to offer the commercial robotaxi service in some areas of Wuhan and Chongqing via the company's autonomous ride-hailing platform Apollo Go.
Starting this month, fully self-driving cars with no manual driving mode and corresponding devices can drive in designated areas and road sections in Shenzhen.
In recent years, China has rolled out a series of policies to promote the development and commercialization of self-driving technology.
