STORYLINE:
A report recently published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union (EU), showed that the average price of bread in the EU rose by 18 percent in August 2022 than a year earlier, as the Russia-Ukraine conflict continued to disrupt global markets.
Among members of the EU, Hungary saw the highest increase in the average bread price in August, up by 66 percent, while France saw the lowest increase at 8 percent.
According to Eurostat, the average price of bread rose 3 percent year on year in August 2021.
Russia and Ukraine are both major exporters of grains and fertilizers.
