The annual urban inflation rate in Egypt accelerated to 15 percent in September from 14.6 percent in the previous month and above market expectation of 14.7 percent, data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics showed on Monday.
It was the highest reading since November 2018.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices climbed 1.6 percent, the highest in five months, accelerating from a 0.9 percent gain in August.
The agency attributed the hike to a 1.8 percent increase in meat prices, 4.4 percent in eggs, 6.2 percent in vegetables, and 1.5 percent in products, devices and equipment and more.
