It was the highest reading since November 2018. On a monthly basis, consumer prices climbed 1.6 percent, the highest in five months, accelerating from a 0.9 percent gain in August. The agency attributed the hike to a 1.8 percent increase in meat prices, 4.4 percent in eggs, 6.2 percent in vegetables, and 1.5 percent in products, devices and equipment and more.
