STORYLINE:
As the Indian state of Maharashtra prepares to celebrate Diwali, one of India's biggest religious festivals, Mumbai residents are flocking to buy handmade lanterns and lights.
Diwali, or Festival of Lights, celebrates the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. This year, the festival falls on Oct. 24.
In Mumbai City, where many generations of people have flourished through the trade of paper lanterns, the neighborhoods can be seen full of colorful papers from a few weeks before the Diwali festival.
Diwali is celebrated quite differently across India. One thing that remains in common is that every village, town and city is lit up with thousands of lamps.
Preparations for Diwali usually begin weeks in advance, and it mostly involves cleaning of the house and buying decorative items.
