The city was among the 25 cities from 13 countries to be accredited last Thursday as international wetland cities during the 14th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties (COP14) to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. Jining has 32 wetland towns, 56 wetland villages and 124 micro-wetlands. It boasts over 158,800 hectares of wetlands, accounting for 14.2 percent of the city's total area. Jining is home to 252 bird species, including 10 species under national first-class protection.
