STORYLINE:
The Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB), the Afghan central bank, said it decided to auction 17 million U.S. dollars as part of the country's efforts to stabilize the exchange rate of the national currency in a statement on Wednesday.
It came amid tumbling afghani, Afghanistan's currency, against foreign currencies, especially the U.S. dollar over the past couple of weeks.
In the past few months, the crisis-stricken Afghanistan's central bank has injected millions of U.S. dollars into the country's foreign exchange markets in a bid to curb the depreciation of afghani against foreign currencies.
Over the past year, Afghanistan has received more than 1.5 billion U.S. dollars in cash as part of the international community's humanitarian aid to stabilize its war-ravaged economy.
