Peru's National Agricultural Health Agency declared a 90-day nationwide health emergency on Wednesday after confirming the first outbreak of H5N1 avian influenza in a poultry farm.
The agency said the measure is aimed at strengthening the monitoring and control of avian influenza, as well as eliminating possible outbreaks and preventing their spread to other parts of the country.
It has also banned the transport of live poultry from detected outbreaks and birds without health certificates, as well as fairs and poultry events.
