Maglev train runs at record speed

A manned high-speed train of Central Japan Railway Co. hits a record speed of 501 kilometers per hour Nov. 28 at a test center in Yamanashi Prefecture, west of Tokyo. The new record velocity of superconducting magnetically levitated linear motor vehicle, or Maglev as it is popularly called, reached the milestone on an 18.4-km track built between Tsuru and Otsuki.

                  TOKYO, Japan - An artist's impression of a super deluxe ''Green Car'' cabin of a new shinkansen super-express train that East Japan Railway Co. plans to introduce on the extended Tohoku Shinkansen line by the end of fiscal 2010. According to JR East, the super deluxe ''Green Car'' will seat up to 18 passengers and will boast the same level of comfort as a first-class cabin on an airliner.                       TOKYO, Japan - A prototype fuel cell vehicle developed by Mazda Motor Corp. runs during an open test drive at the company's research center in Yokohama on June 12. The five-seat vehicle, based on the Premacy small passenger car and powered by a methanol reformer fuel cell system, ran at a speed of around 30 kilometers per hour. The fuel cell system was developed jointly by Mazda and U.S. automaker Ford Motor Co.
