Kotonishiki clinches Emperor's Cup

Former sekiwake Kotonishiki clinched his second Emperor's Cup on the second last day Saturday Nov. 21 of the 15-day Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament, defeating ozeki Takanonami. The photo shows the 12th-ranked maegashira, beaming with joy, surrounded by reporters after his win at Fukuoka Kokusai Center in Fukuoka. ''This is like a dream. I didn't think I could ever win another tournament. I just tried to be aggressive and fight my usual style of sumo,'' said the 30-year-old veteran, whose last championship came at the autumn basho in 1991.
