Nago picked up as 2000 G-8 summit venue

The July 2000 summit of the Group of Eight (G-8) nations will be held in the Okinawa Prefecture city of Nago, the Japanese government announced April 29. The venue in Nago will be the Okinawa International Friendship Hall to be built in the marine resort area of Cape Busena. The photo shows the current view in the tropical island's Cape Busena resort area.

Seagaia resort group files for bankruptcy protection

MIYAZAKI, Japan - The operators of the Seagaia resort complex in Miyazaki Prefecture, southwestern Japan, filed Feb. 19 for bankruptcy protection with the Miyazaki District Court. Phoenix Resort Ltd., a semipublic company, and two group firms filed bankruptcy petitions. The resort (seen in this October 1997 photo), which includes hotels, golf courses, a convention hall, zoo, tennis court and pool, was used as the venue for last July's Group of Eight foreign ministerial meeting.
