Japan offers 20 bil. yen aid package to Vietnam

Japanese Finance Minister Kiichi Miyazawa (L at Center) meets with Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Van Khai (R of Miyazawa) at the government guesthouse in Hanoi on May 16.                     HANOI, Vietnam - Vietnamese legislators on June 27 elected Nguyen Minh Triet (R), Ho Chi Minh City's Communist Party chief, as the country's new president. Triet, 63, subsequently nominated Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung (L), 56, to become the next prime minister. Dung's nomination was confirmed later. In center is Nguyen Phu Trong, 62, who was elected chairman of the National Assembly.
