Thorpe breaks 200m freestyle world record

SYDNEY, Australia - Australian swimming sensation Ian Thorpe breaks the men's 200-meter freestyle world record Aug. 23 on the second day of the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Sydney. He shaved 0.33 second off compatriot Grant Hackett's world record to clock 1 minute, 46.34 in the second semifinal of the 200-meter freestyle -- just 24 hours after obliterating the 400-meter record in the Aug. 22 final.
