Annual 'hagoita' fair opens in Asakusa
TOKYO, Japan - Two women examine ''hagoita'' or decorated wooden paddles, at an annual fair in Asakusa, Tokyo, on Dec. 17, the opening day of the traditional event. Hagoita are used in a game called ''Hanetsuki,'' which is played during the New Year's holidays. Some 300,000 people are expected to visit the fair before its close on Dec. 19.
