Fire damages valuable Kyoto Buddhist temple
KYOTO, Japan - The main hall of the historic Jakko-in temple in Kyoto stands gutted by a predawn fire May 9. The fire virtually destroyed the 80-square-meter wooden structure, which was first built in 594 A.D., and caused extensive damage to the centuries-old Buddhist statue dedicated to the temple.
