Ramos-Horta elected president of East Timor NOC
SYDNEY, Australia - East Timor resistance leader Jose Ramos-Horta (in this file photo) has been elected president of the East Timor National Olympic Committee (NOC). The Nobel Peace Prize laureate said from the capital Dili May 9 that he was unanimously elected NOC president at a meeting last week. East Timor has moved a step closer to participating in its first Olympic Games after the formation of the NOC headed by Ramos-Horta.
