Memorial hall built for Japanese savior of Jews
GIFU, Japan - A memorial hall for Chiune Sugihara, a Japanese diplomat who saved some 6,000 Jews from persecution by Nazi Germany during World War II, has been completed at his hometown of Yaotsu, Gifu Prefecture, in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of his birth. The hall was opened for press preview May 23. Public opening is scheduled for July 30.
