Kyoto institute develops robot that moves neck, arms freely

OSAKA, Japan - ATR Media Integration & Communications Research Laboratories says on Aug. 10 in Osaka that the Kyoto prefectural research institute has developed a robot (R) that can move its neck and arms as naturally as humans do. At 114 centimeters tall, 52 cm wide and weighing 39 kilograms, the robot moves without wiring and can operate independently.

    OSAKA, Japan - A robot called DB, developed by a project team of Japan Science and Technology Corp., demonstrates in Kyoto on Aug. 30 its ability to balance a pole in its palm. The human-shaped robot, which is 190 centimeters tall and weighs 80 kilograms, balanced the pole for four minutes. The pole, made of vinyl chloride, is 4 centimeters in diameter and 120 centimeters in length.
