Post offices start accepting New Year's greeting cards

TOKYO, Japan - Actress Misato Tanaka deposits her New Year's greeting cards in a specially arranged posting box at the Tokyo Central Post Office in Chiyoda Ward on Dec. 15. Tanaka, who was born in the year of the Serpent, next year's symbol in the 12-year cycle, was ceremonially opening the posting of New Year's greeting cards at post offices across Japan for delivery on the first day of the 21st century.
