Violent Japanese movie opens to public despite protests

TOKYO, Japan - People line up in front of a movie theater in Ginza, Tokyo, on Dec. 16 to see a controversial Japanese movie featuring a series of fatal fights by junior high school students. ''Battle Royale,'' directed by Kinji Fukasaku, opened the same day amid criticism of its graphic scenes of killing among students on a deserted island.
