Scientists find cheap chemical compound can be superconductive

TOKYO, Japan - Jun Akimitsu (standing), professor at Aoyama Gakuin University, with assistant Yuji Zenitani, has found that a cheap chemical compound, magnesium diboride, can be transformed into a superconductor at -233 C, by far the highest critical temperature among metals, a breakthrough in 15 years of superconductivity study. Their finding will be published by British science magazine Nature on March 1.
