Mori calls for aid legislation for Miyakejima
TOKYO, Japan - Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori (C) walks with Miyake Village Mayor Ko Hasegawa (L) on Miyakejima Island on March 3 during a brief inspection of damage caused by last year's series of volcanic eruptions. Mori, who flew there by Self Defense Forces helicopter, said he will work to draw up special legislation for the reconstruction of the island, located some 200 kilometers from Tokyo in the Izu archipelago. It was Mori's first trip to Miyakejima since last September, when all 3,800 of the island's residents were evacuated.
