Loading of Japanese rice for N. Korea starts in Hakodate

HAKODATE, Japan - Dock workers began loading Japanese rice onto the 20,900-ton North Korean freighter Jon Jin on April 7 at Hakodate port, Hokkaido. About 10,000 tons of domestic brown rice produced in 1995-1996 and bought by the central government will be shipped to North Korea as humanitarian aid via the U.N. World Food Program. Jon Jin is to set sail for the North in about two weeks.
