Chinese survivors of 1945 uprising join Akita ceremony

AKITA, Japan - Thirty-one Chinese survivors and relatives of those killed in a 1945 uprising of forced laborers attend a memorial service on June 30 in Odate, Akita Prefecture, to remember the victims of what is known as the Hanaoka Incident. The Chinese group visited the site of the uprising for the first time since Kajima Gumi, a predecessor of leading construction contractor Kajima Corp., forced Chinese to work in a river improvement project near the then Hanaoka copper mine.
