3-day solar car competition begins in Akita Pref.
AKITA, Japan - A solar car race gathering 35 teams from across Japan kicked off Aug. 3 in Ogata, Akita Prefecture, northern Japan. Participants in the 2001 World Solar Car Rally will race for 25 hours over three days on a 31-kilometer track, competing for the longest mileage. The current record of 1,407 km was achieved by the Honda Dream in 1995.
