(1)Tokyo education board adopts controversial textbook
TOKYO, Japan - Members of the Tokyo metropolitan education board are surrounded by the press on Aug. 7 before a meeting at the metropolitan government office in Tokyo's Shinjuku Ward to discuss the adoption of a controversial history textbook. The board decided to adopt the textbook, which China and South Korea say glosses over Japan's wartime atrocities, in 24 junior high schools for frail and mentally handicapped children and two branch schools, all run by the metropolitan government.
