Kawashima hopes Japanese diplomats will regain confidence

TOKYO, Japan - Former Vice Foreign Minister Yutaka Kawashima speaks at a farewell press conference at the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo on Aug. 10 following his retirement. He expressed hope that Japan's diplomats will regain confidence in representing their country and make concerted efforts to rebuild public trust in the ministry in the wake of a series of scandals involving its officials.
