Disaster preparedness drill held at Diet building

TOKYO, Japan - A helicopter from the Ground Self-Defense Force lands in front of the Diet building in Tokyo on Aug. 25 as part of a drill simulating a huge earthquake directly under Tokyo or its vicinity. Three different-sized helicopters took part in the drill to test how swiftly and efficiently they could airlift the prime minister and other ministers to the premier's official residence.

        YAMAKITA, Japan - A group of campers are evacuating the campground in the rain-swollen Kurokura River with help of a Ground Self-Defense Force helicopter in the town of Yamakita, Kanagawa Prefecture, northwest of Tokyo, on Aug. 15. 13 campers are still missing in the prefecture.
