Oldest Japanese, Hongo, to turn 114
TOKYO, Japan - Kamato Hongo (file photo), a Kagoshima resident who will turn 114 on Sept. 16, tops the most elderly list of Japanese for the third year in a row, according to a government survey released on Sept. 11 prior to Respect for the Aged Day on Sept. 15. The survey showed that the number of Japanese aged 100 or older by the end of this month will be a record high 15,475, with women accounting for over 80%.
