8 MSDF vessels leave Sasebo port for 'regular drill'

SASEBO, Japan - The Aegis destroyer Kongou (R) of Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF) leaves Sasebo port in Nagasaki Prefecture on Oct. 13 along with seven other destroyers and one support ship. MSDF officials denied that their departure has any link to an earlier plan to dispatch four of them to the Indian Ocean on an information-gathering mission. They said the fleet departed to take part in ''regular drills scheduled in this fiscal year.''
