Japan's jobless rate soars 0.3 point to record 5.3%

TOKYO, Japan - Job seekers check out job opportunities at the government-run job placement office ''Hello Work'' in Tokyo's Bunkyo Ward on Oct. 30. The government announced earlier in the day that Japan's jobless rate soared by 0.3 percentage point in September from the month before to a record-high 5.3%, or 3.57 million.
